Test procedures and protocols for certificate of fitness and entry certification
The procedures and protocols to be used when testing heavy vehicle brakes in Certificate of fitness (CoF) and Entry Certification testing are outlined in the following protocol and procedures guide. This includes information about:
- Background information and an overview of the new requirements
- Premises and equipment

- Heavy vehicle brake test, fundamentals and methods

Notification of Heavy Vehicle Brake Test Requirements at Certificate of Fitness and Entry Certification
Pursuant to Land Transport Rule: Heavy Vehicle Brakes 2.4(2) (Rule 32015), notification is hereby given of the approved methods and conditions of heavy vehicle brake test requirements at certificate of fitness and entry certification.
The Rule requires that brake tests must be carried out, and the test results evaluated, in accordance with the conditions and methods set out in Heavy Vehicle Brake Testing: CoF and Entry Certification Brake Test Protocol and Procedure, Issue 3 and subsequent issues.
This testing comes into force on 1 December 2008, on a regional basis as shown in the map in appendix 5 of the Heavy Vehicle Brake Testing: CoF and Entry Certification Brake Test Protocol and Procedure, Issue 3.
