Operator rating system
The Land Transport Rule Operator Safety Rating 2008
The Land Transport Rule Operator Safety Rating 2008 sets out the key aspects of the ORS. This Rule:
- allows rating categories to be assigned,
- sets out a process for notifying operators of their proposed rating,
- requires the NZTA Board* to update ratings,
- provides for the correction of errors or omissions,
- details the composition of a review panel and the review process, and
- sets out operators’ obligations when publishing a rating.
*The Land Transport Management Act 2008 brought together the functions of Land Transport NZ and Transit NZ to form the New Zealand Transport Agency. The Act provides for the disestablishment of the office of "Director of Land Transport" and provides that any references to the Director in legislation, on or after 1 August 2008, are to be read as a reference to the NZTA. Therefore, although the Rule itself refers to the Director, this should now be read as the NZTA Board.
