Land Transport Rule: Work Time and Logbooks

Submissions have now CLOSED on the 'yellow' draft of the Land Transport Rule: Work Time and Logbooks.

The proposed Rule is based on work time (total hours worked including 'on-duty' time and driving hours) and logbook requirements set out in the Land Transport Amendment Act 2005.

The Rule aims to establish a more consistent framework for managing driver fatigue in the commercial and heavy transport sector and will apply to anyone legally required to manage driving hours (e.g. transport service operators, drivers and dispatchers).

Specific proposals include revised work time requirements (and any variation to these) and criteria for approving fatigue management schemes. A simplified logbook format is also proposed.

The following material provides information on the draft Rule's proposed contents.

If you have any enquiries which are not addressed in the material above, please contact 0800 699 000 or email info@nzta.govt.nz (please put "Work Time Rule" in the Subject line).
