Endorsement renewals (FAQs)

Do my driver licence endorsements expire at the same time as my driver licence?

Endorsements for operating special-type vehicles (ie, Forklift (F), Rollers (R), Track (T) and Wheels (W) endorsements) expire at the same time as the endorsement holder's driver licence. If you hold one of these endorsements, you can renew it at no additional cost when you renew your driver licence.

All other endorsements (ie, Dangerous goods (D), Passenger (P), Vehicle recovery (V), Driving instructor (I) and Testing officer (O) endorsements) have expiry dates that differ from the endorsement holder's driver licence expiry date. If you hold one of these endorsements, its expiry date is item 8 on the back of your driver licence.

If you hold a D, P, V, I and/or O endorsement, you will be sent an endorsement renewal reminder before the endorsement(s) expire. (If you have changed address since your last driver licence application, you should update your address to ensure the renewal reminder is sent to your correct address.)

What if I continue to drive after the required endorsement expires?

Unless an endorsement is renewed on or before its expiry date, the holder cannot legally drive using that endorsement. If you operate under an expired endorsement, you will be liable for serious penalties and may be forbidden to drive. If you are caught again, the vehicle you are driving may be impounded.
