Did you know?

Speed kills because of the sudden stop. On impact, your internal organs and brain are moving forward at the same speed as before the crash. At high speeds they are smashed against your outer skeleton and rupture or haemorrhage.

Carrying people and packages

Every year there are 20,000 crashes on New Zealand roads resulting in death or injury. Anyone who travels on the roads has a chance of being killed or hurt, but there are things you can do to reduce the risk.

Holding a package, person or animal in your lap or arms while driving is dangerous. People should be in their own seat with their own safety belt. Children should be in age-appropriate child restraints. Packages should be kept in a secure place such as in the boot or in a place inside the vehicle where they will not hurt anyone if the vehicle stops quickly.
