Anyone can make a submission on a proposed Rule following advertising of the proposal. The draft Rule will be made available and submissions, preferably typed, can be mailed to the Rules Team at the address below. If possible, submissions should be emailed to info@nzta.govt.nz or made through the online submission form that is set up when a yellow draft Rule is released for public consultation. Submissions on disk will also be welcomed.
Notices of the release of draft Rules for public consultation are published in the public notice columns of newspapers in the main centres. They may be also be published in other, regional daily newspapers.
Most draft Rules released for public comment, are accessible on this website, together with an overview and Questions and Answers, until submissions close. For other Rules, a notice of the Minister’s intention to make a Rule, including a summary of the Rule proposals, may be posted on the website rather than the full draft of the Rule. The consultation draft of a Rule remains on the website for viewing (but not for comment) until the Rule has been finalised and signed into law.
If you would like to make a submission, you should include:
You should also state clearly if there is any information in your submission that is commercially sensitive or if there is some other reason why you do not want your submission to be released to other interested parties.
If posting your submission, send it to:
